In this course, students will go through the metaphysical and theological investigations found in the beginning sections of Shāh WaliAllāh’s Hujjat Allāh al-Bālighah. The focus is on how Shāh WaliAllāh understands piety, sin, divine attributes, human action, and the inner meanings of worship. Students will learn how metaphysics, ethics, ritual, and cosmology interconnect in his system. This course will consist of both lectures and in-class discussions.
There are NO Prerequisites for this course.
There are NO EXAMS for this course. All year-long courses count toward the ‘Ālimiyyah Degree (8-year requirement).

The true nature of piety and sin
The meaning and dimensions of tawḥīd
The reality of shirk
The categories and forms of shirk
Belief in the divine attributes
Belief in predestination
Worship as the sole right of God
Honoring the symbols and emblems of Allah
The inner meaning of purification (wuḍū’ and ghusl)
The inner dimensions of prayer
The inner dimensions of zakāt
The inner dimensions of fasting
The inner dimensions of ḥajj
The various types and ranks of sin
The harmful effects of sin on a person
Sins that are between a person and other people
