Delve into the intricacies of the Qur’ān’s script (rasm) and the counting of its verses (‘Add al-Ayy). This course will provide valuable insights from variant readings and diverse copies of the Qur’ān, shedding light on its historical and textual dimensions.
Part I: ‘Aqīlat atrāb al-Qasā’id
- Duration: September – January
- Focus: Understanding the script (rasm) of the Qur’ān
- Topics Covered:
- Evolution of the Qur’ānic script
- Variations in the script
- Role of the script in maintaining the Qur’ān’s authenticity
- Examples from variant readings and various manuscript copies
- Objective: To grasp the nuances of the script’s development
Part II: Nādhimat-al-Zuhr
- Duration: February – June
- Focus: Study of ‘Add al-Ayy (count of verses in the Qur’ān)
- Topics Covered:
- Historical context of verse counts
- Differences in verse counts across different transmissions
- Structural complexities of the Qur’ān
- Methods of meticulous preservation
- Objective: To provide a deeper understanding of the Qur’ān’s structural intricacies
Part III: al-Fawā’id al-Muʻtabarah and Ijāzah in Four Qirā’āt
- Duration: July – August
- Focus: Advanced course on four qirā’āt of the Qur’ān
- Texts Studied: al-Fawā’id al-Muʻtabarah by Shaykh Muḥammad Aḥmad Mutawallī
- Qirā’āt Covered:
- Ibn Muḥayṣin
- al-Aʻmash
- Ḥasan al-Baṣrī
- Yaḥyā al-Yazīdī
- Objective: To learn and obtain ijāzah in the four additional qirā’āt of the Qur’ān
