Ijāzah in Tajwīd and Qur’ānic Reading (Riwāyah of Ḥafṣ) – 2020/2021

This course is an on-phone/online program in which the students who attended the TAJ courses will complete their ijāzah in the Ḥafṣ reading.

An ijāzah is a traditional certification which means that there is a system and a specific structure that is followed and implemented.

In order to receive an ijāzah, students must register in and complete the following courses: (These courses run simultaneously with Ijāzah reading so it is recommended you take both together).

The students will follow four phases during the ījāzah reading:

  1. Foundation Phase (September – November): Students will focus on the correct pronunciation of the letters, the vowel sounds and fluency.
  2. Build Phase (December – February): Students will focus on learning and implementing the rules of tajwīd.
  3. Strength Phase (March – May): Students will focus on fluency, and completing as much Qur’ānic reading as possible.
  4. Conclusion (June – August): Students will learn the variant readings and how to implement and understand the rules of reading. (This is not al-‘ashr al-Ṣughrā)

The reading is segregated by gender. Attendance is mandatory.

A pre-requisite for enrollment in this program is that the student be able to recite the Qur’ān relatively fluent.

Registration opens up in August and closes in September.

Students do not need to attend the graduation event to receive their ijāzah.
