Ijāzah in Tafsīr and Hermeneutics

Program Overview:

Critical Loyalty’s Tafsīr Ijāzah is a comprehensive two-year online program that integrates theory, practice, and research to offer both breadth and depth in tafsīr studies. 

Course Structure:

  1. Foundation in Tafsīr Theory:

    • Study of al-Fawz al-Kabīr by Shāh Walīullāh.
    • Focus on hermeneutics rather than exegesis of all Qur’ānic verses.
    • Comparative tafsīr to cover practical aspects.
  2. Weekly Sessions:

    • One-hour weekly meetings over two years.
    • Open to both men and women without gender segregation.
    • Graduate seminar format emphasizing discussion.
  3. Curriculum Highlights:

    • Detailed study of al-Fawz al-Kabīr.
    • Exploration of interreligious and intrareligious dialogue on hermeneutics and exegesis.
    • Analysis of exegesis differences between Sahabah, Tabi’īn, and post-codification scholars.
    • Emphasis on critical thinking and depth through research.

Program Goals:

Critical Loyalty aims to graduate students who think like scholars. This entails:

  • Critical and objective thinking.
  • Proficiency in research.
  • Demonstration of open-mindedness and impartiality.
  • Ability to articulate arguments clearly and persuasively.
  • Use of logical evidence over emotional appeal.
  • Cohesive presentation of ideas, integrating original sources with logical arguments.

Note: Students who do not meet these scholarly criteria will not be awarded an ijāzah.
